I may or may not have cried when Lindsey Vonn won gold last night.

red.white.blue
I got this email today. I may have squealed after opening it (in case you forgot about my love for the Olympics)! Only 32 days! And look how dapper the Americans will look this year. Way to go Mr. Lauren! Well minus the berets...those are getting old and so Winter Olympics 2002!

speaking of olympics
I don't know if you heard but Chicago has a bid in for the 2016 summer olympics!!!The IOC votes today on where the 2016 olympics will take place. I'm sure all my hometown friends and fam would rather see these games go to another city, but Chicago has my vote purely for selfish reasons! I missed my chance in 2002 to go to the winter games...I don't want to miss another opportunity!!! While summers in Chi-town aren't my fav (hello humidity!!!) and there's already too many people in that city--count me in!
This could be like the 4th of July times 20. I better start planning out my red, white and blue outfits now. Well maybe I'll wait to see if Chicago actually gets the games. :)

let the countdown begin
Anyone else excited for the winter olympics that are (kinda) just around the corner???I prefer the summer olympics to the winter olympics, but I will take the olympics in whatever form they come in. And good news is that I'll be on maternity leave during the whole thing! So come February 12th you can find me and baby T cheering on the USA from our comfy little couch.
Only 135 day to go!!!

GO WORLD
Well the Olympics are finally over...now what do I do?!?! The Olympic theme song is still running through my head, but now it's more to the tune of a funeral march. I tried to fill my void last night with some classic reality TV (usually always does the trick) and other mindless nonsense, but it was nothing like rooting on someone’s life long dreams and watching history being made.
But there is a silver lining to the Olympics being over:
But there is a silver lining to the Olympics being over:
- I can finally get some sleep
- I will be a more pleasant person to be around since I will be getting more sleep
- I can catch up on Project Runway and other shows I've been neglecting
- Maybe I will come back to reality about my Olympic potential
- I won't have to watch the Chinese cheat around town
- My coworkers won't have to listen to me go on and on about the Olympics anymore
Now, I know that the winter Olympics are only two years away...but they just aren't the same. I. Love. The. Summer. Olympics. Don't get me wrong I will be watching every sec. of the Winter Olympics just with a little less enthusiasm.

Chinese Faker Alert
Okay folks...I'm starting to get a little T.O.'d here! I feel like story after story is coming out about how the Chinese are being dishonest through out these Olympics. Lets start off with how some of the fireworks were digitally placed in the open ceremonies. Being the firework lover that I am, I was amazed by the firework show Beijing put on. It was a unlike anything I've ever dreamed of. Well don't I feel dumb after talking for days about the amazing firework show, joke's on me, thanks China!
Another controversy also took place in the opening ceremonies--do you recall that cute little girl that sang in her cute little red dress? Surprise! That wasn't her singing, they had her lip-syncing to another child's voice. A child they said wasn't cute enough to be in the ceremony! BAH! Okay I can get wanting the right face for something like that...but is there no one in that HUGE-over populated country of theirs that can't sing and look cute at the same time! Now the ugly girl will forever be remembered as just that, the ugly girl.
Then there is the under aged gymnastics controversy. Do the Chinese really think they are fooling us with their baby gymnasts, some of who just lost their baby teeth??? I think Bela Karolyi said it best, "One of the biggest frustrations is, what arrogance. These people think we are stupid. We are in the business of gymnastics and we know what a kid of 14, or 15, or 16 looks like. You don’t have to be a gymnastics coach to know what they look like at 16." Seriously who do they think they are fooling? And of course their passports say 16, the Chinese gov. issued them and they will do anything for the gold. This may sound like I'm just bitter Betty because USA got the silver. That's not the case at all, USA totally fell under pressure (well mostly just one girl) and they got what they deserved. But that brings me to another point. I think they [those facilitating at the National Indoor Stadium] totally screwed with Alicia Sacramone (who fell off the balance beam). Gymnasts are used to seeing their name on the board and taking the mat right away. Well three different times she was told to take the mat and then wait. I think the Chinese purposely did this to psych her out. Now I'm not making excuses for the girl, she totally screwed up and let down her team and an entire nation and most importantly ME, but I'm not putting anything past that sneaky little Beijing!
On a lighter note, Blaine and I decided the best chance I have for Olympic gold is badminton. Anyone want to be my partner? 2012 London Olympics here I come!

top 5 reasons I love the olympics (already)...
I know, I know...all you thousands of Team Turnbow readers are gagging at another Olympic post so early into the games. Well my friends, I just can't help it. I. Am. Obsessed. I have watched nothing but the Olympics since Friday night. And here's a list of what I've loved so far {because I love lists and that's what I do, make lists}
No. 5 the finely crafted-in sync-most technologically advanced-organized opening ceremonies were amazing
No. 4 the Olympics really do bring people together. While I was at the dentist even the grumpy dental assistant chatted {with a smile on her face mind you} with me about the Olympics.
No. 3 the awesome/inspiring commercials...it's like watching the super bowl for two weeks
No. 2 Blaine said he would be willing to support my dream of becoming an Olympic athlete :)
No. 1 Michael Phelps + Jason Lezak+ freestyle relay

8.8.08
August 8th, 2008 at 8:08pm, the magic begins...the 2008 Beijing Olympics! Is it a coincidence that the opening ceremony has a theme of eights, or just a well thought out marketing plan? Many around the world consider the number eight to be a lucky number. It's said to signify success and in Chinese the word for eight means prosperity, fortune or wealth. But the advertisements with 8.8.8 and Michael Phelps looking like he can save the world with his backstroke...make me believe it's more of a marketing tool than Chinese luck. Either way I'm excited...LET THE GAMES BEGIN ((Olympic music in the background)). The Olympics allow countries to put aside their differences and compete against one another..."The Olympics, bringing countries together one useless little medal at a time!" If nothing else maybe the Olympics will distract the media from talking about Brett Farve (barf!). In all serious I love the Olympics and I'm excited for the men's basketball team to take home the gold as well as the women's gymnastics. GO TEAM USA!

Beijing 2008...one world, one dream
[hey it's their slogan not mine!]
I almost forgot the summer Olympics were this summer. I can't believe I haven't been getting more excited for this monumental event! I think only a select few know how much I love the Olympics, and this could be because they only come around every four years (well I guess technically every two years).
Of course Salt Lake City 2002 was by far my favorite, but I may be a little bias on that one. Followed up closely by Atlanta 1996, who didn't love USA gymnastics "Magnificent Seven"! The inspiring Kerri Strug sticking her landing on an injured ankle, the most decorated American gymnast, Shannon Miller, doing perfect back flip after back flip or what about Dominique Dawes dancing around like it was nobodies business. Oh man I wanted so badly to be a gymnast that summer. My Aunt Stephanie was pregnant with Skylee that summer, and we would just sit in the air conditioned house [she was 9 months prego] and watch the Olympics for hours [in between rounds of Donkey Kong of course].
Summer of 2004, my college roommates and I had just moved into a new house and we didn't have the cable set up yet. I was dying knowing the Olympics were on and I wasn't watching!!! Luckily we had a neighbor right across the street that had the same obsession, he would watch the Olympics none stop. And also to my luck he had a HUGE big screen TV. I would just sit at our living room window and watch through his. It was at that moment I'm sure that Juli questioned if I was a wise choice as a roommate.
I love the Olympics! I love how patriotic I feel watching them. I love how united I feel with the entire country knowing we are all rooting for the same team. I love the opening ceremonies, although drawn out and kind of dry at times I can't stop watching as each country holds their flag high and proud as they march into the arena.
So come August 8th I'm busy!
R-O-C-K IN THE USA! GO RED, WHITE AND BLUE!
